About the film

Runtime: 90 min / Estimated budget: EUR 2.8 million
This is a film about the line between watching violence and taking part in it. All her life Ewa has controlled the frame: she chooses the victim, arranges the body, sets the light. She believes she is facing violence, though she still watches it from a safe distance. Then the line blurs. The staged body becomes a real dead animal. The stolen files become a matter for the police. In the end a real corpse lies in front of Ewa. And she photographs this one too.
ABOUT THE TITLE

ABOUT THE TITLE

This film summons more than one ghost. Ewa carries Maria within her; for Natasza, it is Mariupol and her parents. Unsolved killings have left ghosts across Poland. And the war that Europe had managed to forget has returned, just beyond Poland’s eastern border. The photographs are ghosts too – each one a trace of someone no longer here.
